The Government College of Engineering, Salem in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India, is an engineering education center in the state of Tamil Nadu,2020 admissions started. It is one of the three institutions offering Metallurgical Engineering as a full-time course in Tamil Nadu. The institute was affiliated to the University of Madras until 2001. After a brief affiliation with Periyar University, it was a constituent college of Anna University which is a statewide centralized engineering university. From the year of 2009, GCE salem has been promoted as one of the Autonomous Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
The College is the Regional Centre for Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S. programmes. The college is the Zonal Office for the conduct of Anna University Examinations in the 26 colleges belonging to the Zone-VI. The Institution is one of the 11 technical institutions of Tamil Nadu selected for World Bank financial assistance under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The Institution has received a grant of 10.97 crores as life time allocation for the project period 2003 to 2007.
The college is thus growing from strength to strength and gaining recognition for its contribution to the cause of engineering education.

Geofest and Sports Day is celebrated in the college.
Extra – Curricular Facilities
The College has a library located in a seprate block containing books pertaining to the various courses of study in this institution as well as limited number of books of general value and interest. The number of volumes at present is 55,000 and more books are being added. Besides books, more than 60 journals and other periodicals are subscribed to. The current issues of the jounals are displayed on the racks and the back volumes are bound together. Under TEQUIP, 1023 books have been procured. A book bank with 688 books is available for SC/ST students.
Hostel Facilities
Residential facilities are provided with six separate blocks for the under graduate boys and an exclusive hostel block for girls.

Admission to all undergraduate courses ie. Bachelors in Engineering (B.E.) are carried out through the single window system of the Anna University. Students can choose the courses based upon the state-wise rank calculated by their marks in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Department of Education, Government of TamilNadu.
Reservations are provided for BC/MBC/DNC/SC/ST etc as per the rules of the Government of TamilNadu.
Reservations are also provided for Physically handicapped / Ex-Service men / Sports persons / Other state candidates.
B.Arch Degree Admission:
Candidates having passed 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination with 50% marks as aggregate. , having Mathematics as a subject of study and obtained 80 marks out of 200 in NATA(National Aptitude Test for Architecture) test in any one of the attempt.
TNEA Admission process will commence after the counselling is over. Candidates have to report in the allotted colleges and submit the fees and complete the admission formalities.Candidates will have to verify there documents in the respective colleges and then pay the admission fees.
